The Modern ASEAN Plays, a six-volume anthology of the contemporary dramas of Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand is a pioneering work which has long been needed by the nations of ASEAN and the world. For more than a decade, the ASEAN Committee on Culture and Information has successfully engaged in projects showcasing the performing, visual, literary, and media art of its member nations. It is hoped that this initial compendium of plays will start a substantial interaction between and mutual enrichment of the theatres of ASEAN countries, and project a more comprehensive and valid picture of the regions’ theatre to artists, scholars and audiences around the world.
