URBAN LAND ECONOMICS AND PUBLIC POLICY

This book is primarily concerned with the land use control legal system. The general point of view which pervades the book is threefold. The major theme is that, although we may lackan understanding of the totality of city evolution and direction, we can try to grasp more completely than we have up until now how it is that a subcontrol system, such as land use control, actually affects different interest groups or social sectors of the urban population. To date our understanding of and concern with the ramifications of local public policy relating to land have been minimal. There is no doubt that the inadequacy of this understanding and concern has contributed more than proportionately to the urban social and economic dislocations of our times.
